Awareness of recycling and its role in environmental and waste management has been comparatively low in Oman. The country also had very few recycling facilities and infrastructures. With the country aiming to radically modernise itself, we wanted to help change that.
We found ourselves faced with a unique opportunity to build a Leadership in Environmental Energy and Design project at the Mall of Oman - a large mall that remains under construction. Constructed at Bawshar, Muscat, Oman, the mall features 350 outlets over 137,000 square metres of retail space, and an 8000 square metre play area. The project makes it Oman's flagship destination for retail, leisure, and entertainment. Our job was to source and manage recycling partners, submit and oversee recycling certificates, manage the client’s evolving plans and expectations, and act as the go-between for consultants, the client and the contractor.
Our successful involvement in the project cemented Averda’s reputation as the only Waste Management company with a proven ability to design and deliver on an LEED Project in Oman. Since then, the team has handled three more LEED projects, with a ‘mega-project’ called the Oman Botanic Garden soon to commence.
