As part of the awareness campaign, Averda has an installment at the Al Barsha Mall every Friday and Saturday from 10 AM to 10 PM, for three weeks, dedicated to engaging with the public, especially young children, on the importance of caring for the environment and recycling. The installment, located at the entrance to the Union Cooperative society Hypermarket has Averda representatives on hand to explain the recycling process, highlighting which items can and can’t be recycled and to educate the community on the benefits of recycling through interactive games and activities.
‘Abu Dhabi and Dubai alone generate close to 40,000 tonnes of solid waste daily, a rate which projects that most of the country’s landfills may reach their capacities within the next decade,” said Chief Operating Officer for Averda in the GCC region, Jeroen Vincent. “Together with Dubai Municipality we are hoping to change people’s perception of waste and encourage them to recycle in order to support Dubai in the achievement of a green city.”
As part of the My City, My Environment initiative, Averda is providing two types of bins for each home in the Al Barsha 2 and Al Barsha 3 residential areas, one for general waste and the other for recyclables. The company will also be responsible for manual and mechanical community cleaning throughout the areas assigned to it. Averda employees have also been conducting door-to-door visits as part of the campaign, in order to educate community residents on proper waste segregation and the importance of recycling to the environment.
Averda is providing approximately 7,000 bins in total for the ‘My City, My Environment’ initiative, ensuring that recycling is convenient for community residents and have already seen a positive impact in the Al Barsha communities. The company has also developed a smartphone app that allows residents to engage with it directly regarding their recycling bins and the cleanliness of their area. The app is available for download from itunes:
