Recycling app connects truck owners to customers

Back to News
With new advances in technology, connecting waste recyclers to waste collectors is becoming easier than ever before. Now, a new app for Android devices is making it possible for independent truck owners and clients, who need waste removed, to get in touch with one another."We want to save you the trouble of sorting your waste, while at the same time creating work for truck owners in a way that is environmentally conscious,” says founder of Wrapp, the recycling app, Clive Amsel. "It's one of the primary reasons for our existence,” he explains.

App users select the type of waste, truck and collection time

The app, Wrapp, allows customers to select the type of waste, type of truck and time of collection for loads from 1.3 to 12 tonnes, with costing quotes supplied in 60 seconds, all on the app. Payment takes place after the waste has been delivered and can be done through a credit card or by EFT – both using the app. With notifications and live tracking, no order status follow-up with calls or texts is necessary. With a cloud-based dashboard, the app also gives managers access to a full audit trail with timestamps of every waste load’s life cycle. This tracks each job from removal to recycling or disposal. Useful graphic breakdowns of the data are also supplied.Over and above Wrapp’s time-saving benefits, customers also appreciate the employment opportunities the service is creating. “It’s one of the most rewarding aspects of our business. I think our clients can see what potential this technology holds for South Africans,” says Amsel.

All service providers vetted and approved

Wrapp vets and approves all service providers. Wrapp also conducts quarterly quality checks for roadworthiness and compliance with national waste regulations. Wrapp waste truck collectors transport most types of solid waste and recyclables, making use of RORO (roll-on, roll-off) bins, skip bins and tipper trucks that come with their own loading staff. Some truck collectors also offer stone and sand delivery.Wrapp is a member of the Institute of Waste Management South Africa (IWMSA) and is accredited as a waste provider by the City of Cape Town. The app is available for Android devices and can be downloaded from the Google Play store.
