Dubai, 28th October 2020: Averda, the leading waste and recycling company in the emerging world, today announced that it has become a participant of the United Nations Global Compact, the world’s largest corporate citizenship and sustainability initiative.
As a signatory, Averda will support the Global Compact’s 10 principles in the area of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption, underlining the company’s commitment to responsible business practices across all the markets where it works.
“We are committed to making the UN Global Compact and its principles part of the strategy, culture and day-to-day operations of our company, and to engage in collaborative projects which advance the broader Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations,” said Malek Sukkar, Chief Executive Officer of Averda.
Averda’s existing commitments and policies on environmental sustainability, human rights and bribery and corruption already broadly align with the UN Global Compact’s principles.
As a signatory, Averda will now complete an annual Communication on Progress (COP) submission, describing practical progress the company is making towards the Compact’s principles in each of the four issue areas (human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption).
